DREAM ORGANS
The influences on this dream-organ are diverse, including the 1925
Moller in the Larkin Building, Buffalo, NY; the 1914 Hunter at 'Westfield',
Wimbledon; the 1956 Harrison in Bristol's Colston Hall, and the
large Allen touring organ built for Virgil Fox.
The choruses are of moderate size, as appropriate for the room, and a
wide range of colour is present. The intention was to create a coherent
blend of utility and fantasy.
This stoplist was inspired by the Open Court in Bear Wood House,
Bucks., designed by John Walter. Reminiscnet of the Grand Court
in the Wanamaker Store, Philadelphia, it forms a 3-storey 'well'
70ft. long by 25ft. broad. I imagine the pipes occupying the
corridors at one end of the hall on both first and second floors,
with the Echo division at the opposite end on the second floor. There
would thus be adequate space for the full-length 32FT. pipes. The console
would be placed at ground-floor level.
