CALOW PARISH CHURCH

Calow Parish Church

The church of St. Peter, Calow, near Chesterfield, was built in 1869, and the spire added in 1887. It contained an organ almost certainly by Albert Keates (Sheffield) which was dedicated at Easter 1901; after tonal alterations in 1978 the stoplist was:

Great: Open D., Stopped D., Principal 4, 15th 2.
Swell: Open D., Viol di G., Gemshorn 4, Mix. 12+15.
Pedal: Bourdon.

A very practical stoplist, and one not easy to improve for a village church organ. Nonetheless, starting de novo, either of the two following stoplists would be interesting. Within the limitations of their size, both are suitable for playing repertoire. The second is a better accompanimental medium than the first. There is no need for either scheme to include a swell-box.
