DREAM ORGANS
JULIAN RHODES' IMAGINARY ORGANS

ST. THOMAS, BRAMPTON,
CHESTERFIELD

St. Thomas, Brampton

This handsome, rather boxy church of dark grey stone has an air of early-Victorian formality despite the light interior with its vividly painted ceiling.

My scheme is essentially modern, with an unforced, rich tutti and a generous number of full-length unisons. Choir provides a foil to Great, while Swell is more pungent and reedy. The whole organ contains chromatic contrasts between tonal lights and darks.
