DREAM ORGANS

The division names are new, derived from architectural
terms. Thus the Hauptwerk is called 'Atrium', meaning
a centrally placed courtyard or portico. The Ober-Positiv
is called 'Loggia', meaning an elevated verandah or gallery.
'Belvedere' means a high tower, and is thus an appropriate
name for a Kronwerk division located at the top of the case.
'Avernus' has a different origin. It was the Roman name
for a lake in Campana, believed to give access to the
underworld. It thus labels the Pedal division.
This stoplist shows rather a different balance and
proportion to those instruments which inspired it,
and some deliberate anachronisms. But the
emphasis on unison tone is historically accurate,
as are the characteristic mixtures and the string
stops.
