DREAM ORGANS
![]()
The organ, with four manuals and forty-three stops, was situated in
a chamber on the north side of the chancel, partly in the tower,
with pipefronts facing both quire and nave. This is my scheme
for an organ of similar position and size.
St. Paul's Church was one of many built in Hastings and St. Leonards
in the second half of the 19th-century. Designed in pseudo decorated gothic
by John Newton and dedicated in 1868, its tower, curiously reminiscent
of a Venetian campanile, was a prominent local landmark.
The interior was noted for the unusual richness of its fittings,
with a lavish use of marble. It was demolished in the 1960s.
