According to a plaque on the organ, it was built by Snetzler for the chapel of the Shore family in Norton, Sheffield. The Swell was added in 1837. In 1843 the organ was moved to a chapel in Banbury, Oxon., and in 1857 to Westgate Unitarian, Lewes, East Sussex. It came to Hastings in 1930.Other sources state that the organ was built in about 1760 and that the Swell was added by J.W. Walker. Barnes & Renshaw ('The Life and Work of John Snetzler', 1994) note that the chapel at Norton was not built until 1794. They also state that the case appears to have been made from a Snetzler chamber organ case, and that the remaining Snetzler pipework includes the Dulciana from 4ft. C, some small-scaled 'helpers', the wooden Stopped Diapason, part of the Open Diapason and part of the Principal.
The organ is free-standing at the front left of the chapel.
