JULIAN RHODES' DREAM ORGANS
This level is the beginning of the main chorus structures of the instrument. It is a development of traditional Positive and Choir models.The name 'Atrium' is an architectural term meaning a court or covered portico; this level is so called because of its role as a 'portico' to the main body of the organ above it.
The Loggia division evokes the warmth of a Spanish night, with registers including:
POSITIVE LEFT and RIGHT contain complementary wood and metal principal choruses as well as characterful flutes and 'ancient' strings. The enclosed CHAMOIS sections contain mainly string registers. The 'Chamois' stops themselves evoke the mild, reedy renaissance gemshorn; there is also a variety of 'bowed' and 'plucked' sounds. The REED CHESTS contain a plethora of short-length reeds, from the resonant Trompas and the hollow-toned Hora to the exotic Khoison and the wailing Rauschpipes.NIGHT MIXTURE: A quiet, shimmering piffaro of gemshorns and strings.
ANDALUZA: A rich, pungent mixture.
ARABIC FLUTE: A turned open wood flute of hollow tone.
CLAIR DE LUNE: A gentle, shimmering piffaro of Unda Marae.
CROOKED SPIRE HORN: This name is derived from the same roots as 'tapered Krum Horn', which defines this register.
GLYPH FLUTE: A wide-scale koppel flute. The name refers to the numinosity of the written mark.
GOLDEN DAWN: A brass-reed of warm, gentle horn timbre.
KAIWA: An harmonic metal flute.
LUMINA: A 2-rank Ludwigtone (q.v. in main stop-glossary)
LUNA ROJA: A clarinet-horn of woodily foundational timbre. The name means 'red moon' in Spanish.
MORO: A wood Dulzian of gently hollow timbre.Córdoba.

OLIVE FLUTE: A triangluar-plan open wood flute of fresh, verdant tone.
OLIVE HORN: A mild, gentle wooden fagotto.
STELLA MARIS: A bright but unassertive Larigot.
ZAMPA: A wide-scale stopped wood flute. The name is from the eponymous opera by Hérold.
The CHOIR PIANO sections include families of Pyramid and Obelisk flutes. In conjunction with the String, Dolce and Vox sections, the Choir divisions provide a rich resource of romantic tonality, complementing the several Positive sections.
The IRIDIAN division (the name means 'rainbow-hued', from Iris, the Greek goddess) includes, in the Left section:
And in the Right section:PHOENICE: An undulating harmonic-flute pair of gentle timbre. The name is an old Greek term for the constellation Ursa Major.
SUAVIAL: An open wood flute of sweet, breathy tone. The name comes from the Latin 'suavis', meaning 'sweet'.
NUAGE: An ultra-refined piffaro of gentle dulciana and salicional tone.
STIR: A very short-length Vox Humana of gently rustling timbre.
The DOLCE section contains, in the Right section, warm, gentle cylindrical Dolces, and in the Left section, true inverted-conical Dolcans, with the characteristically horny timbre. There are also families of diapasons, flute hybrids, some keen and gentle strings, and a solitary reed.OCCULUS: An undulating narrow-scale open-flute pair of soft, bright timbre. The name is an old Latin term for the constellation Corona Borealis.
PARTIALTON: A very quiet free-reed, the sound of which contains almost no unison, but which expoits the natural harmonic spectrum of the reed and resonator.

SONANCE D'AMOUR: An quiet, ultra-smooth wooden horn.
The LAMPRINE division is comprised of chamade reeds; the name means 'glowing', from the Latin 'Lampyris', a glow-worm. The registers are to be unassertive, but brilliant and plangant in tone, forming a harmonically rich, treble-oriented ensemble. Stops in the Left section include:
And in the Right section:AZZANGO: A brilliant chorus-mixture. The name means 'cymbal' in Persian.
QUARTAN: An harmonic colouring mixture including the 4th, hence the name.

XIPHIAS: A thin-toned trumpet. The name, mentioned in Smart's "Song to David" (1763), is a 17th-century term for the constellation Dorado and means 'swordfish'.

QUINTAN: An harmonic colouring mixture including the (sharp) 5th, hence the name.
